What Are Intestinal Parasites?

If we had to go to the basics, parasites live and feed off of other animals. Intestinal parasites are microscopic and feed off the material in your body.

Yes, the thought of having intestinal parasites is quite unpleasant. Yet, it's more common thank you think! They can be found all around the world and can infect any kind of person.

How Are They Transmitted?

Intestinal parasites are typically transmitted through contaminated food, soil, and water. If one person has it, it's relatively easy for them to pass it on to someone else. For example, if you don't wash your hands after the bathroom, you can transmit to housemates by touching the door handles afterwards.

The risk factors for intestinal parasites are areas that have poor sanitation and hygiene and child and institutional care centers. You are particularly at risk when you have a weakened immune system. Unfortunately, pet owners also have a higher risk because animals are a major source of parasites.

So, how do you know if you have them?
