To give you a heads-up before we proceed further, Kayla Itsines is an Instagram fitness guru, personal trainer and author of an eBook workout routine that has sold millions of copies around the world and is considered as one of the best workout routines ever for women looking to lose weight. It is called the Bikini Body Guide or the BBG.
The app, however is a different story altogether. When Kayla released her second iteration of the Bikini Body Guide, she started to send out feelers and hints saying that something big was in the pipeline. That was when the hashtag ‘Sweat with Kayla’ first started to make an appearance on the gram.
Soon, it was revealed that a new version of the BBG called the BBG 3.0 would be launched soon and it would be an app-only exclusive that would be available solely to the subscribers of Kayla’s latest app.
How Sweat with Kayla went wrong
The very premise for taking a successful eBook program into a mobile phone was that it would be more convenient. People would have access to the workout routine when they needed it the most. Just swipe a screen, power on your iPhone and start working out. That makes sense, doesn’t it?
Well, it does to be honest. But only until you hear what you get from the app and what it costs you.
Let’s talk about the good things first. The Kayla Itsines App is one of the most flawlessly designed app with a very fluid user interface that gives you access to everything in just one or two clicks. You won’t get lost toggling through menus trying to find what you are looking for. From food to the BBG, it is all right where you want it. You have access to all the versions of BBG.
So, if you buy the app and you haven’t completed the BBG 1.0 yet, you can just scroll and select that to start working out. The same goes true for the other versions of the BBG. You can also browse through and select according to the circuit you want to complete on that day. This lets you choose LISS, HIIT and rehabilitation.
Now for the caveats which are neatly hidden behind the glossy packaging and Kayla’s reliable promise that was a major letdown for her followers. The Kayla Itsines app is expensive. It costs you $19.99 a month. That’s $240 a year. For some people, that is serious money to be paying for content that is at best, a rehash of what was already sold to customers in the earlier versions of the BBG. Oh yes!
Bikini Body Guide eBooks are a better deal
The Kayla Itsines app does not contain any new groundbreaking workout routines, secret recipes for fat loss or even new exercises. It looks like she just got lazy and repackaged all the old stuff in fancy new packaging with a hefty annual fee to maintain. What happens if you don’t renew your subscription to the app? You lose access to everything. In simpler terms, you need to keep paying the monthly fee to retain access to the app. You cannot download anything.
On the other hand, the BBG eBooks already sum up what you are going to get from the Kayla Itsines App. The same workouts, the same diet plans, the same circuits, only cheaper and in some places with a huge discount thrown in, which makes it a steal.
If you have already purchased her eBooks, then the app is an excuse to pay more money to buy the same thing again. A lot more money to be honest.
If you have not purchased the BBG before, then the app is a way to buy something that can be bought for much cheaper rates.
Kayla Itsines is undoubtedly one of the most skilled and efficient personal trainer that you will ever see. Her workout routines are revolutionary. It doesn’t just help you lose fat, it also helps you gain muscle and improve body strength. But all this can be achieved with her BBG eBooks. The Sweat with Kayla App is an overpriced and hyped program that is best avoided by one and all.
