The macula is the highly sensitive central portion of the retina that helps us to perceive our surroundings as sharp and crisp images. However, as we age, the macula is threatened by a common eye condition called as Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). It is most commonly seen among people older than 50 years of age or older. AMD is governed by a number of factors, and may progress gradually or quickly, ultimately leading to blindness to a great extent.

Role of Superfoods in AMD

Recent studies have suggested that a healthy macula needs certain chemicals which are readily available in some superfoods. Chemicals like lutein and zeaxanthin, when given in an experimental setting prevented the development or progression of AMD.

Give your eyes the best chance by providing these nutrients in the right amount as outlined in the following infographic by Focus Clinics.
