What Are the Different Types of CBD?

The CBD industry has really sprouted over the past few years with a trend in the legalization of marijuana for both health and recreational use taking the nation by storm.

Since it’s a relatively new industry, there’s a lot of confusion regarding the existing types of CBD, or cannabidiol products. As such, a lot of people tend to use the term CBD oil to refer to various CBD-infused products.

What Are the Different Types of CBD?

Unfortunately, this may be misleading to people who are new in the field because plenty of CBD oil products have several cannabinoids. CBD oils are actually differentiated by their cannabinoid content.

There are currently 3 types of CBD that you’ll come across in the industry. You can reach out to the brand Wisdom Essentials to choose the right CBD for your needs. They include:

  • Broad Spectrum CBD oil
  • Full Spectrum CBD oil
  • Isolate (CBD)

Let’s break them down a little further.

Broad Spectrum CBD Oil

Broad spectrum CBD oil is somewhat of a cross between full spectrum CBD oils and CBD isolate but it can be rather hard to find.

Broad spectrum CBD oil undergoes the same extraction process as CBD isolate and full spectrum CBD oil. It has all the chemical compounds and cannabinoids extracted from the marijuana plant apart from tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC.

Full Spectrum CBD Oil

Some people make the mistake of assuming that full spectrum CBD oil is the same as CBD isolate because full spectrum CBD oil is commonly referred to as a full or whole plant extract. The two are, however, entirely different.

Full spectrum CBD oil has all the cannabinoids and chemical compounds found in marijuana such as terpenes and fatty acids. There’s an upside to this in that certain compounds have healing properties such as terpenes which have anti-inflammatory properties. It even has THC but in limited quantities that are not enough to get you high.

What Is CBD Isolate?

CBD is a highly pure form of CBD and is the cheapest of all types of CBD. It is referred to as an isolate because it only has cannabidiol (CBD) and doesn’t have any other compounds such as terpenes or fatty acids from the cannabis plant.

A lot of companies sell isolates as a powder or crystal that people place under the tongue. Other companies simply sell it as CBD oil.

CBD isolate is extracted through the same process used to extract other CBD oils. The only thing that sets it apart is that the CBD is filtered out once the cannabinoids are extracted. It then undergoes a chilling process known as winterization, which clears the product off of any other chemical compounds.

Bringing It All Together

The highly competitive nature of the industry has seen companies and small businesses create numerous types of CBD products with all kinds of terminologies just to set themselves apart from their business rivals.

A good way of setting the three apart is to remember that the difference between CBD isolates, full spectrum, and broad spectrum CBD oils is the chemical compound content in these products. CBD isolate only has CBD, broad spectrum CBD, has all cannabinoids apart from THC, while full spectrum CBD has all the cannabinoids present in the cannabis plant.
