Anxiety disorders affect both the mind and body. Those who are affected feel crippled like they can’t do everyday tasks without worrying or constantly overthinking things. For those who feel like they have an anxiety disorder, protect your health by booking an appointment with a health professional. With the proper insurance, one can have a free of charge medical consultation, which is extremely helpful for people who tend to worry about how they’ll pay for doctor fees as well. But apart from getting professional help, there are other things you can do alone to help you cope with anxiety.

Do the 3-3-3 Rule

People with anxiety disorders will feel both fear and anxiety at the same time. However, there is a difference between the two. According to the National Health Portal India, “fear is a response to an immediate danger,” while anxiety is fearing what’s to come. People who suffer from stress symptoms as more prone to panic attacks, and when this happens, it is important to know and follow the 3-3-3 rule. The 3-3-3 rule states that you should name three things that you see, three sounds you can hear, and then move your arm, ankle, and fingers. This will help the mind refocus on the present.

Follow Breathing Techniques

Yoga isn’t just about flexibility, but what people love about this exercise is it relaxes the mind, body, and soul. Integral to yoga is the breathing techniques that allow people with anxiety disorders to calm themselves down. The breathing doesn’t have to be elaborate; it can be simple deep breathing done right. Just focus on inhaling and exhaling deeply, and while you’re doing that, re-center the mind at the present time. This should help calm you down.

Keep Yourself Busy

Don’t give your mind time to wander off. Instead, keep yourself busy whenever possible. And when we talk about keeping yourself busy, it’s the good kind – like doing DIY projects as stress relievers! Putting your hands to work on a project is an effective way to stay in the present and not worry about anything else. That’s simply because you’re focused on what you’re doing. If you’re not into the creative stuff, maybe enrolling in a music class or dance class will help. Pick a class where you will not be tested or judged based on your abilities, but a class that’s all about having fun and socializing.

Anxiety is hard to beat, and it might be an ongoing battle for some. However, with the right help and techniques, you’ll find yourself being able to calm yourself when in dire situations. Sometimes, all you can rely on is yourself, which is another important reason why you should always take care of your mind and body. Don’t stress out too much, and don’t worry about the future. Live in the now and enjoy it!
