How To Keep Healthy All Year Round

It’s all too easy to assume that, during the winter, you’re going to get sick. During the winter, you’re going to catch a cold or come down with the flu or get some other kind of bug that means you miss out on the fun and the celebrations. It doesn’t have to be this way. There are some excellent ways to ensure you can keep healthy all year round. Here are just some of them.

Watch Less TV

Apart from working and sleeping, watching TV is the most common daily activity for most people. While it’s great to have a bit of downtime, there is a serious issue with watching many hours of TV at a time; it can cause problems with your health. Studies have shown that those who watch the most TV have an increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. Plus, staying in and watching TV can cause issues with your immune system too, and make it far easier to catch any cold that is going around. Watch less TV, replace it with something more active if possible, or at least something that stimulates the brain, and you’ll be healthier.

Exercise

People tend to find that it’s easier to exercise during the summer when it’s nice and warm outside, and it’s not such an effort to leave their cozy bed in the morning. It’s also more difficult to persuade yourself to get active when the afternoons get darker sooner. However, doing regular exercise is the best way to stay healthy, and it can help you to lose weight too. Joining sports and social club will help as you will meet like-minded people and you’ll have plenty of different activities to choose from, some of which will be inside so the cold weather won’t be a problem.

Drink Water

Drinking enough water every day means you flush away the toxins that are in your body. The more water you drink, the better you’ll feel, and the better your immune system will work because it’s not all clogged up with toxins. Ideally, you should aim to drink six to eight glasses (8oz) per day, although you may need more or less depending on your body and how well it uses the water that you give it. Over time, an increased intake of water will mean your body works much better in general.

Eat Five Meals A Day

Eating a healthy, balanced diet is another excellent way to ensure you stay healthy all year round. Although you may assume that it’s three meals you need, the new wisdom says that it should actually be five. That’s breakfast, a mid-morning snack, lunch, an afternoon snack, and dinner. If you don’t add the other two meals, your body could become short on nutrients, and you’ll put on weight due to your inbuilt survival mechanism, where your body thinks it is starving so it will reserve fat for use later. Eating more but eating better is the key.
