Body Contour Surgery

Types of Body Contouring Surgeries

There are many procedures and surgeries that can help you get your figure to its ideal shape. Here, we will explore body contouring, what work you can get done, and the benefits of it in more detail.

What is Body Contouring?

Body contouring is a form of invasive surgery. However, there are now several non intrusive options as well. The main reason people have these procedures is to reshape their body to get something that exercise could not offer. Body contouring also refers to any procedure after the initial surgery to remove excess skin and shape the body.

A Range of Body Contouring Procedures

There is more than one procedure that falls into this category. More often than not, the procedure depends on what part of the body you want to reshape:

Liposuction – is by far the most well known body contouring procedure. It involves removing fat via surgery, and it can be performed on just about any part of the body. Today, liposuction is a safe procedure that allows fat cells to be removed easily with less blood loss and less risk, which means a quicker recovery.

Tummy Tuck – is also known as Abdominoplasty. This type of reformation is a form of cosmetic surgery that makes the abdomen firmer. This surgery is often preformed on those who are having trouble regaining rigidity after pregnancy, or by those who have a lot of excess skin after losing weight.

Body Lifts and Arm Reductions – generally preformed on the lower body or on the arms. This form of procedure removes excess skin or fat. People usually have this procedure performed on their thighs or buttocks (or arms) because they have lost a lot of weight. Another reason is due to loss of elasticity because of age.

Benefits of Body Contouring

The benefits of contouring are easy to identify. They are mostly related to confidence, and generally, the correct procedure will give those who have it a new lease on life. More often than not, if somebody has lost a lot of weight, having excess skin can be just as bad as having the weight, and this is an issue that contouring solves.

Body contouring can be great for the right person. Remember, this type of surgery is not always suitable for everyone so make sure you speak to your doctor in length before deciding to have any procedure preformed.

  • Interesting article. This has renewed my interest in considering removing fat from my middle. I have recently gone from a size 6 to about a 14 so it has become even more tempting since I am struggling to get the weight off.

I am due to have a partial hysterectomy (I know, tmi) and was thinking about having a tummy tuck during the same surgery but that might not be a good idea. I think I’ll go with liposuction!

  • Body lifting is not lightly undertaken. The process requires a commitment on the part of the patient who must stay with the program through bariatric surgery, during the 18 months required for weight loss, then the body contouring procedures and recovery. Often, beginning to end takes three years.
